Concord Grape Pie
A few years ago, while listening to a food-related radio show, someone called in looking for a recipe for concord grape pie. He had been looking for years, but never found one. This was before the rise of the many recipe websites and recipe search engines that are available to us.
Years later, I remembered this foodie's call when working on this website, I came across precisely the recipe that had eluded him, a recipe that came from this region.
It turns out, back in the day, grapes were pretty big deal around here, an important part of the local economy of then-Dover Township. According to Cooking with Memories!, "ln the late 1800s, Dover was the second largest shipping point for grapes in the U. S." (page 198).
So concord grapes are not just a delicious fruit, they are an important part of Westlake's history. As for concord grape pie recipes, this site has three.
