Introducing the Community Cookbook
The Community Cookbook is a collection of recipes from within the community, both contemporary and historical. The goal of this project is to not only preserve the region's culinary history, but also make it easy to share.
So, in this site you will find both a searchable database of recipes, and a collection of ebooks that the library has produced in PDF, ePub, and mobi formats (for Kindle owners). To start with, we have three ebooks:
- Cooking with Memories, produced for the city's bicentennial in 2011.
- Recipes from the Westlake Junior Women's Club, drawn from a cookbook produced by the organization in 1997.
- A Text Book of Domestic Science, a common home-economics textbook that became many home cooks' day-to-day cook. Our edition, donated by a staff member, includes recipes hand-written in the front and back of the book.
At first glance, you will see only the A Text Book of Domestic Science. Many titles will be restricted to cardholders. More titles are in the works, so stay tuned.
You can contribute to this collection, too! With your contributions and by partnering with groups that produce these cookbooks, WPPL can build The Community Cookbook project into a culinary resource for the area.
